Let’s be honest, most shelf-stable goods from the store are filled with ingredients we really don’t necessarily want in our bodies.
If we can’t pronounce it or if it doesn’t sound like an ingredient we know and use, it probably isn’t something we want to purchase.
The convenience is what gets us. But lets simply change the way we look at our pantry.
When you slowly start to run out of what you have, start looking into ways you can make things yourself.
When the kids ran out of chocolate syrup (they’ve been big on a big chocolate milk lately), I thought to myself, it cannot be that hard to make this at home. And even better, I know what ingredients are going into the syrup (sorry Hershey’s).
I’m here to tell you, with 5-ingredients and 10ish minutes of your time, this really couldn’t get any easier – so let’s get into it!
Homemade Chocolate Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Cocoa Powder
- 1 Cup Filtered Water
- 1/2 – 3/4 Cup Cane Sugar (or Maple Syrup / Date Sugar)
- 1/2 TBS Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 tsp Sea Salt
Instructions
- At your stovetop, in a medium saucepan, add in your cocoa, water, sugar, vanilla and salt.
- Whisk frequently (I promise, it will burn if you walk away) for roughly 5 min. NOTE: The chocolate will thicken as it reduces from the heat
- After it slightly cools, pour into your favorite sealing glass jar (we just use a mason jar) and store in your refrigerator for up to 2 months.
